Queen Mary Building - new home to University of Sydney students
      July 2015

Waterman Group is pleased to announce the new incarnation of Sydney's historic Queen Mary Building, as a home to students of the University of Sydney.

Situated in the heart of Camperdown in the west of the city, the renovated Queen Mary Building will once again welcome new residents who can look forward to living in their new, vibrant and engaging community.

Opened in 1952 to house trainee nurses destined to work in the nearby RPA hospital, the Queen Mary Building sat vacant from 2002 until 2013. That year, the University of Sydney purchased the 26,000sqm building and chose Waterman Sydney, and Nettleton Tribe (Architects), to work with FDC Constructions to create student accommodation for 800 international and domestic students.

Over the past eighteen months this new, affordable student accommodation hub has been carefully retrofitted to provide students with high quality private rooms alongside spacious, shared living areas, kitchens and study spaces. Students can enjoy sky lounges, sky gardens and even a theatre, a gym and sound-proof music rooms.

Waterman’s Project Director Richard Nicoliello said: “Waterman was selected by the university to form a foundational part of this innovative, adaptive re-use project, to work closely with the architect and produce a concept that would embody their vision. We then moved into the construction stage, working with builders from FDC to successfully complete the project. The University of Sydney now has an outstanding building to house both local and international students, which will no doubt prove attractive to students in the coming years. We are very proud to have been involved in such a great project and see it through to completion.”
