Santos Place Gains 6-Star Green Star Status
      November 2009
With a focus on delivering ecologically sustainable developments in Australia, Waterman is proud to have been involved in the delivery of Santos Place in the North Quarter precinct of Brisbane’s CBD. The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) have recently awarded Santos Place (formerly known as North Bridge) 6 Stars under the Office Design v2 Certified Rating scheme.

The $270 Million project which was developed by Nielson Properties has been designed and constructed to Property Council of Australia ‘A’ Grade standard and comprises 33,000 m2 NLA across 36 floors. Achieving a 6 Stars Green Star is the highest rating achievable in Australia under the Green Star rating scheme which represents a standard of ‘World Leadership’. The project was awarded 81 credit points with a requirement of 75 points to achieve a 6 Star rating. The building contains initiatives that will effectively reduce the ongoing carbon footprint by up to 40% when compared to buildings of standard design.

Waterman’s Queensland office contributed to the building achieving all credit points available for IEQ-2 and EMI-5 by providing Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis, Air Change Effectiveness calculations, water course pollution reduction specifications and report compilations for submission to the GBCA. In the first instance, this was as a consultant to Hastie, the mechanical services contractor and subsequently engaged directly by Hutchinson Builders who were Design & Construct contractors. Waterman has been recognised for its timely, innovative and professional approach in the provision of its services on this project.

Ben North – Regional Director for Waterman commented:

“Our approach to this project has directly assisted in obtaining the necessary credit points for the Green Star categories that we were involved in. This is not only a major achievement for the project team, but a great milestone for our Queensland office in contributing to ‘World Leading’ sustainable development in Australia”.

The Waterman Queensland office commenced operation in 2007 and provides engineering design and environmental services to the Queensland property market.
